Adalius Thomas Visits With Dolphins
Free-agent linebacker Adalius Thomas visited with the Dolphins on Tuesday after meeting with the Jets the day before.
Thomas was cut by the Patriots earlier this year, three seasons after signing a big-money free-agent deal.
Broncos, Bailey Discussing Long-Term Deal
The Broncos and cornerback Champ Bailey are discussing a four-year contract extension.
"With respect to the process between our organization and Jack Reale (Bailey's agent), we'd rather keep things private," Broncos general manager Brian Xanders said. "We acknowledge we're in talks."
The deal would put the Pro Bowler under contract through the 2014 season.
Colts Will Keep Manning Talks Quiet
With the rumor mill churning in New England about Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and a possible contract extension, the Colts plan to keep things quiet on the Peyton Manning front.
Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay referred to the "cone of silence" that was made popular in the old TV series "Get Smart" when asked about Manning's status.
"The 'cone of silence' is going to come down, at least for us," Irsay said. "That's how you get something done. I'm not even sure what the Brady thing is."
Irsay has said he's committed to making Manning, the NFL's only four-time MVP and winner the past two seasons, the highest-paid player in the league.
Brady Supports Moss, Calls Him One Of Best Ever
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has nothing but good things to say about wide receiver Randy Moss.
On Monday, Moss expressed his frustration with his contract status. He's entering the final year of a three-year deal that will pay him $6.8 million.
"There's only one Randy Moss that will ever play this game," Brady said. "He's the greatest, probably, downfield receiver in the history of the NFL. Those catches that he makes, where you guys see he runs 65 yards down the field, you throw it and he just runs and catches it. That's impossible to do."
Brady is reportedly close to signing an extension with New England.
"He's everything we look for a receiver," Brady said of Moss. "He's been a great player for his whole career, what he's done here, in terms of his productivity. What he's done this preseason, in training camp, he's been a great example, a great leader. We're lucky to have him. We really are. He's something."
Brady Evasive On Contract Rumors
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady isn't comfortable discussing reports that he's close to a contract extension with the only NFL team he's ever played for.
"I'm preparing to go out here and have a good weekend," Brady said on WEEI-AM's The Dennis & Callahan Morning Show. "Nothing else matters to me. ... That's the God's honest truth."
Brady did have a message for fans worried about him heading into the season without a contract past 2010.
"My home's in Boston," he said.
Brady made his comments one day after the Boston Herald cited sources close to the negotiations in reporting that the quarterback had been offered a three-year, $58 million contract extension.
Brady, Patriots Getting Closer To Deal
The Patriots are close to signing quarterback Tom Brady to a long-term contract extension.
There have been reports that a deal has been completed, but that's not true, according to sources.
The two sides have generated significant momentum, but nothing is final yet.
The Boston Herald reported that the Patriots offered their franchise quarterback a three-year, $58 million contract that would kick in after this season.
Leinart Agrees To Terms With Texans
Matt Leinart has agreed to a one-year deal with the Texans, according to a source.
Leinart, who was released recently by the Cardinals, didn't receive much interest as a free agent.
He will be the team's No. 3 option behind starter Matt Schaub and backup Dan Orlovsky until he learns the offense and leapfrogs Orlovsky.
Houshmandzadeh Down To Raiders, Redskins
T.J. Houshmandzadeh is deciding between the Raiders and Redskins, according to a source.
Houshmandzadeh will be paid $7 million this season by the Seahawks, who let him go over the weekend.
Texans Among Leaders For Leinart
The Texans have emerged as one of the leading candidates to sign former Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart, according to league sources.
Houston was one of the first teams to contact Leinart after he was released.
Seahawks Won't Pursue Leinart
Having been cut by the Cardinals, Matt Leinart appears to be a perfect fit for the Seahawks.
However, Clark Judge of CBS Sports writes that Seattle won't pursue the young quarterback.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was Leinart's college coach at USC.
"Apparently, Seattle is satisfied with its two quarterbacks, Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst, despite Whitehurst's inconsistent play this summer. But the club paid a steep price to acquire Whitehurst from San Diego and envisions him as Hasselbeck's successor, and the Seahawks didn't want to complicate the situation by introducing another young quarterback," Judge writes.
Rams Will Pass On Derrick Ward
Derrick Ward was released by Tampa Bay after just one season.
